[Victoria] The Great Ocean Road (Part 1)

This has been on my list of things to do ever since I arrived in Melbourne. The famous Great Ocean Road, with all the awesome rock formations at the tail end of the journey.

So I left Melbourne in the morning and stopped briefly in Geelong (see previous post [Victoria] Geelong Waterfront). From Geelong, it’s a solid 3 hour drive. But what’s a road trip without a few stops? I had all day!

It turns out with all my stopping, Apollo Bay was the perfect place to stop off for lunch. The town was bustling with tourists doing day trips for the weekend and I managed to help myself to a scallop pie from the bakery.

One of my highlights during this drive was being able to take detours to track down some animals. It’s time to see native Aussie fauna up close! I would totally recommend hiring a car and driving yourself. That way you can pick which bits of the “road” you want to stop at, and take your own time taking in the beautiful scenery.
