[Abu Dhabi] Masdar City, the future is here!

It’s hard not to get swept up by all the optimism and greeny vibes upon entering the premises of Masdar City. If you haven’t heard of it before, Masdar City is a research facility for green tech that tries to walk the walk as well as talking the talk. Whilst you may still need to drive there, once you exit the carpark you use the PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) system to enter the campus. These Minority Report style automatic vehicles whizz back and forth automatically, and you simply get on the next one to enter the city.

The campus consists of research labs, teaching facilities, apartments etc. There is even a Papparoti. The architecture is inspired by traditional Arabic designs and there are even some wind towers utilised to cool down the buildings. I’m not sure how extensively the wind towers are actually used, but I stood underneath one and it definitely felt cool enough to convince me that it works!
