Desert Winter Wonderland

We were driving through the Desert Road in the evening to make it to Palmerston North by midnight. It was snowing quite hard and the road was really slippery. We ended up driving about 30km/h almost all the way through, and the town of Waiouru felt rather magical with the fresh snow piling on top of everything (parked cars, trucks, trees and the various tanks outside the Army Museum).

Fortunately the road was better on our drive back to Auckland while the snow stayed in the landscape.
